The BICATOP bolus is administered to calves suffering from diarrhea.
The calf loses varying amounts of fluid, electrolytes and buffer bases due to the diarrhea. BICATOP contains 90% sodium carbonate, which acts as a buffer substance to counteract blood acidification and promote the calves' desire to drink.
The bolus should be administered to the calf as early as possible at the first sign of diarrhea to compensate for any loss of buffers.
Dosage:
- 1 BICATOP bolus at the first sign of diarrhea
- 1 BICATOP bolus after each of the next 3 feedings
- Also, 1-2 boluses for newborns as a preventative measure to support colostrum intake
