Green-colored caterpillar glue for direct application to tree trunks, for the aftercare of glue rings, and – in conjunction with the caterpillar glue belt paper – for making your own glue rings. The green color protects beneficial insects.
Tested by the Lower Saxony Forestry Research Institute, the Offenburg Agricultural Office, and fruit growers.
Brunonia caterpillar glue is a penetrating glue. Only insects that crawl into the glue are caught. Other insects (e.g., beneficial insects looking for a place to land) are released. Unlike adhesive glues, which immediately catch insects (including beneficial insects!) or leaves, this prevents the formation of bridges between trapped insects or leaves (catchability: 100%).
For controlling all insects that crawl along the trunk:
- Winter moth (Operhophtera brumata) – one of the most important fruit pests
- Ants (Lasius sp. and others) – protect and spread aphid colonies
- Aphids (Eriosoma lanigerum) – cause blood cancer, thereby reducing frost resistance
- Hazel bud borer (Curculio nucum) – can lead to high harvest losses
- Bark beetles (Xyleborus dispar and others) – found on many tree species
- Snow moth (Apocheima pilosaria) – a pest on various deciduous trees, including fruit trees
- Black cherry aphid (Myzus cerasi, M. prunavium) – initial infestation is reduced.
The glue's effect on the tree lasts for about half a year. An opened can, if tightly closed, will last for about 5-6 years.
The glue weathers over time – after about half a year, it will have dried out (depending on the weather) and will then be partially absorbed by the plant over time. Sprinkle some sand over the remaining glue. The glue can then be scraped off the trunk.
Gardener's Tip:
Since ants can walk over the glue more easily than caterpillars due to their "clumsy" gait, the glue ring should be at least 10 cm high and have a minimum layer thickness of 2 mm.
