The Nightjet locomotive 1216 012 is, alongside the ÖBB 1116 195, the second Taurus locomotive in this design. A striking feature of the 1216 is the red stripe on both ends, which is required for approval in Italy.
With the timetable change in December 2016, the ÖBB launched its Europe-wide night train service under the brand name Nightjet. Since December 2017, Nightjet (NJ) has also been a Train type. The redesign of the cars was achieved using adhesive films. The striking design is in midnight blue with a hint of a starry sky.
