Life was certainly not easy in the early days of Carcassonne. Getting started with this game, however, remains simple. Those familiar with the original will be immediately immersed, but everyone else can jump in right away, too. While prehistoric hunters followed the tracks of shaggy aurochs and gatherers plucked berries from thorny bushes, up to five players in this new game collect and hunt exclusively for points. This is not only significantly simpler, but also far more entertaining. The hunters, gatherers, and fishermen playing the early Carcassonne games earn points for fish in rivers, for game in meadow clearings, for dark forests concealing glowing minerals—there are bonus cards for these—and they earn points for small wooden huts that they have tactically placed in the prehistoric world of Carcassonne they have designed.
