The "Honau" toilet house has unfortunately not been preserved and can therefore no longer be found on site today. For the development of this kit, we received archive photos and plans from the Honau Station Friends Association.
The Echaz Railway runs from Reutlingen to Münsingen and was completed in 1893. It was the first standard-gauge branch line opened in Württemberg and, at the same time, the last railway project to be given its own name.
Honau Station was a central location: Here, with a 100% gradient, Germany's steepest standard-gauge rack railway began, climbing up to Lichtenstein. Mainly locomotives of the BR 97.5 were used. After the Second World War, the line once again played an important role in freight transport until its closure in 1953. Since it lay entirely in the French-occupied part of Württemberg, military transports could be transported over the line to the Münsingen military training area without having to cross the American sector. Due to the enormous gradient, freight trains, which were then hauled by the BR 50, BR 52, BR 57.10, and occasionally the BR 93.5, required a BR 97.5 rack-and-pinion locomotive to be used at the end of the train in push-pull operation.
Architecturally, the "Honau" station building with its two extensions is remarkable: The entire station was built in the Swiss chalet style and served as a prototype for the Württemberg standard station type III and later IIIa.
The beautiful hipped roof construction as well as many of the loving details on the beams, wood paneling, and porches remained exclusively for the "Honau" station and were not later implemented in the standard buildings due to cost reasons. After the line was closed in the mid-1950s, the building fell into disrepair until the Honau Station Friends Association took over the station on a voluntary basis in 2003. Much has happened since then, and the The building now shines in its former glory.
