The Ae 3/6ˡ series electric locomotives were procured in several orders from 1921 to 1929. Locomotive 10700 originates from the MFO and SLM workshops. Due to the long procurement period, technical innovations were also incorporated. The locomotives' power increased from 1,450 kW to 1,600 kW. Thanks to their good running characteristics, the top speed could also be increased. From 1929 from 90 km/h to 100 km/h and for the more powerful locomotives (from No. 10637) in 1937, after adjustments to the running axle bogie, to 110 km/h.
Locomotive 10700 was based in the Bern depot from 1927 to 1986. It is still housed as a serviceable historic vehicle in the Olten depot and belongs to the SBB Historical Heritage Foundation (SBB Historic).
