The device generates an extremely loud, pulsating, aggressive ultrasonic tone of approximately 21 kHz, which is inaudible to most humans, but is a significant nuisance to wild animals and is therefore avoided whenever possible. It can also sometimes be used to drive away dogs and cats that are accustomed to human companionship.
The device is powered by four R14 (UM2) batteries, which last up to eight months depending on quality.
